Who We Are?
About TarkataZ | Bengal Folk Culture, Baul Music & Eco Tourism
Welcome to TarkataZ – a living cultural space where music, art, nature, and human connection come together in the heart of rural Bengal. Every corner here carries a story, every song echoes tradition, and every experience supports a deeper mission of preserving Bengal’s folk heritage for future generations.
Our journey began with a simple dream: to create a space where travelers, artists, and seekers could experience the soulful rhythm of Bengal’s folk culture while reconnecting with nature and community life. That dream gradually took shape as Golok Ecospace, an eco-cultural ArtSpace located beside the serene Ajoy River in Joydev Kenduli, Birbhum, West Bengal — a land long associated with Baul philosophy, wandering minstrels, and timeless spiritual traditions.
More than just a homestay or travel destination, TarkataZ is a cultural initiative dedicated to preserving, documenting, and celebrating the living traditions of Bengal. Through folk music gatherings, artist collaborations, workshops, storytelling, and immersive rural experiences, we aim to build bridges between local communities and global travelers through the universal language of creativity.
Our Mission: Celebrating Culture, Supporting Community

At TarkataZ, we believe that art and folk traditions are not relics of the past — they are living expressions of humanity, wisdom, and collective memory.
Our mission is to preserve and promote Bengal’s rich folk culture while creating meaningful opportunities for local artists, musicians, and craftspeople to share their traditions with the world.
Every gathering, workshop, and cultural exchange at Golok Ecospace contributes toward:
- Supporting local folk artists and rural communities
- Preserving Baul music and oral traditions
- Encouraging sustainable cultural tourism
- Building global appreciation for Bengal’s heritage
- Creating spaces for artistic collaboration and learning
Whether it is an evening of soulful Baul songs around a bonfire, a riverside art workshop, or conversations with wandering minstrels, each experience at TarkataZ is rooted in authenticity, connection, and cultural respect.

👣 The Founder’s Vision
Meet the Founder – Souvik Roy

TarkataZ was founded by Souvik Roy, a photographer, traveler, and cultural archivist whose lens has always been drawn to the human stories hidden in everyday life. Through years of journeys across villages and riversides, Souvik Roy discovered that the most profound lessons often come not from classrooms, but from the simple words and lived experiences of common people.
With a deep respect for folk wisdom and the human spirit, the founder began documenting faces, voices, and songs that reflect Bengal’s soul — stories of faith, labor, devotion, and resilience. Each photograph and video became a piece of a larger narrative: how culture, art, and humanity intertwine in the rhythm of daily life.
Their vision was simple yet profound:
“Every face tells a story, every story holds a lesson — and through the lens, humanity becomes our shared classroom.”
This vision gave birth to TarkataZ, a creative platform where photography, film, and folk expression come together to educate, inspire, and connect people. By archiving not only performances but also the personal philosophies of the artists and villagers themselves, Souvik Roy seeks to preserve Bengal’s oral traditions while presenting them as living lessons in empathy, creativity, and coexistence.
Under their guidance, TarkataZ continues to evolve as a visual classroom without walls – where culture becomes education, and every photograph or song reminds us of our shared humanity.

Shouvik, the owner of the place, is such a gentle and sweet-hearted person. He offered us the most delicious homely food in the town and showed us where to visit to listen to and jam with marvellous Baul musicians. The riverside location made the stay peaceful, and sitting on a bower beside a small open temple shaded by a Bunyan tree and listening to lovely music felt so cosy.
